Our School Philosophy and Educational Approach

Noor ul Islam Primary School follows The National Curriculum for Primary Schools in England. Our school aims to empower pupils to navigate the world in which they live.

We follow a ‘whole child’ approach to pedagogy, promoting our pupils’s academic, physical, spiritual and moral development. We instill interdisciplinary themes such as problem solving, open discourse and critical thinking skills, to build a firm understanding of our pupil’s faith and empower them as potential future leaders in Great Britain.

We offer a comprehensive curriculum that is designed to integrate the National Curriculum with a bespoke Islamic Studies programme, delivered through contemporary teaching methods. Our broad and balanced timetable sees discrete lessons for both General and Islamic education – the latter includes dedicated time for the study of Islamic Sciences, the Qur’an (Qa’ida & Tajwid) and the Arabic Language. Both perspectives are also intertwined throughout the school day. Through enriched educational experiences, pupils learn how to stay safe and healthy, foster successful relationships and responsibly participate in British society with an understanding and appreciation of fundamental British values, as noted in our most recent Ofsted report (2018):

"Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is very well promoted. Leaders provide a variety of good opportunities for pupils to learn about the world around them, including other faiths. Pupils are well prepared for life in British society."

We seek to promote effective teaching and learning, and it is important that our pupils reach the highest levels of attainment, gaining useful qualifications and skills as they transition onto secondary school. We support them to become life-long learners through opportunities to augment their understanding of the world in which they live, whilst promoting the Islamic identity through which they live it. As such, our curriculum remains flexible and adaptive to local and global issues that emerge around us.

Assessments and Reports

Children in Year 6 sit end of key stage assessments (SATS). Pupils in Early Years complete the EYFS curriculum by the end of the summer term. All other year groups have regular assessments including an end of year external assessment (GL assessments) to help teachers evaluate the progress of pupils.

Parents will receive an annual report about their children’s strengths, progress and achievements and be informed about any gaps in their children’s progress and ways that they can help. Reports will focus on how well the child is progressing in terms of becoming secure in their learning.
